Out With the OLD and in with the Blue!

Out With the OLD and in with the Blue!

Want to know how to update your bathroom on a budget?  Here is how my husband and I did our bathroom makeover.  Sorry I didn’t take photos of the guest bathroom BEFORE we tackled the budget bathroom redo!   This bathroom home DIY project was actually done BEFORE the blogging idea came along, but because I have been so preoccupied the last few weeks, I am just now getting to this bathroom makeover project that my husband and I did!    I am sorry, I KNOW this before picture is NOT a great example at all but I just want you to look at the vanity and the counter top!  Ok I know it only shows the corner of the vanity and counter top!!  (I know, I know, I MUST get better, remember I am still a newbie!)  You should be able to tell how cheap and OUTDATED it is!

The counter top was laminate with a mauvy blueish finish, and the vanity was covered in laminate also!  In other words it was NOT even close to being in the 21st Century!!  IT HAD TO GO, and it had to go FAST!!!!  The only problem was this whole bathroom needed to be totally redone and I did not have the time and really did not want to put a lot of money in a guest bathroom that is hardly ever used!  Especially when I am planning to bring my whole house into the 21st century!  WHAT was I to do?   So I thought about it a few days, figured why not just change the vanity out for now and wait until I can completely gut the bathroom and just do the whole thing over! It happens to be the least favorite room in the whole house!  I can not stand the layout of that bathroom!

I already had this shower curtain.  I bought it at Tuesday Morning.

I went to Home Depot and found this bathroom (Glacier Bayvanity.  Did you see that price?  Only $88.00 for the bathroom vanity AND white cultured marble counter top!!!  What a steal!!! AND it is solid wood ya’ll!!    AND it has a 4 star review!!  This Glacier Bay vanity actually comes in white and a light oak.  I chose the white, but the oak will work too!

It is actually much better quality than what we had!  And I was excited!!! I bought that bad boy and home we went!!   Because I wanted to dazzel this vanity and bathroom up, I chose to paint it.  But it looks wonderful white and will update any bathroom in your home!  First, we sanded the entire vanity with 120 grit sand paper, we then primed it with primer, using a small roller and applied one coat.  After it had completely dried, I then I painted it, using a small roller and applied two coats of paint.  I used Sherwin Williams Moody Blue paint. You can sand and prime the oak colored vanity and paint it too!  We put new hardware on and we got this!

Oops!  Yes I see the doors are not even.  That is ok, I never claimed to be a perfectionist, in fact I embrace little imperfections like that because they keep me grounded!   I’m sure my husband will fix it when he sees this though! :-)

Check out the white cultured marble countertop!  It is a solid white countertop and I love it!  It looks so current and in style!

Isn’t that the cutest thing?  We added a brushed nickel faucet, brushed nickel lighting, and an oval mirror, (all Glacier Bay brand) from Home Depot.  Home Depot has a large supply of home improvement items that should meet your budget.  Because this bathroom makeover was inexpensive, I don’t have to feel guilty when I want to change it!

We painted the walls Ashwood by Benjamin Moore, but was color matched using Sherwin Williams HGTV paint.   I LOVE the HGTV Sherwin Williams paint, and I love when it is 40% off!  I already had the white monogrammed Pottery Barn hand towels and was going to use beige bathroom throw rugs from our previous house, so I decided to use Ashwood, a light neutral paint color.  I also added brushed nickel bathroom decor accessories.

The ceramic floor tile will definitly be changed!     I think I will need to place a sign that reads “CAUTION, VERY SLIPPERY WHEN WET” because it is way too slick and slippery!

Anyway David did all of the manual labor.  He ripped out the old bathroom vanity, the huge mirror that was on the wall, and he installed this cutie patootie vanity and faucet!  He even replaced the toilet with a brand new Glacier Bay toilet from Home Depot!  BONUS!!   The old one was beige and I wanted white to match the new countertop!

I absolutetly LOVE this little blue Glacier Bay vanity!  And I really love that it was only $88.00.   I love to find ways to use something that already exists, but recreate it into something new!  I hope you are able to be inspired from this home DIY budget friendly bathroom project update!  If you already have the contractor grade vanity in your bathroom, then try to dazzel it with your favorite color of paint!

What do you think?  Don’t you just love it!!
