Are you a Gourmet chef or short order cook?

Are you a Gourmet chef or short order cook?

Are you one of those women that stay on pinterest pinning delicous, decadent recipes?  Are you one that not only cooks them, but can present them with such beauty?

Well I’m not!   You can even check out my pinterest boards here to see for yourself!!  For so many years I have thought something was wrong with me because I just don’t get into cooking!  I mean who wants to stand in a kitchen for hours cutting up and preparing food!  Not me!   I would rather be on facebook chatting away with my friends or reading up on my favorite blogs!   I am learning to accept myself for who God made me to be!  We all have things that we are good at, and it is ok if you are not good at cooking!   You can read my blog post, how-to-clean-a-scorched-pot, and know that I am not joking when I say I am not a good cook!

It’s crazy how things in life go. I have spent the summer with Angelia, my newest BFF and a professional chef!  That’s right, a professional chef and me! I guess the Lord had something in mind!  Angelia is a chef at Glen Arvin Country Club in Thomasville, GA and has spent the summer in North Carolina cooking all the meals for the camps at Living Waters.   So much for dieting and loosing these extra stress pounds that I seemed to have packed on very quickly before David left for Afganistan!  She has made sure that I fed my stress, and fed it well!  Not only is she an excellent chef, Angelia is a hoot!   Angelia is always cracking a joke and you will always see a BIG smile on her face!  She has been such a blessing for me this summer, she has made me laugh so much and laughter is good for my soul!  Thank you Angelia!!

I told Angelia that my blog could score her a personal chef job one day, maybe for someone like Oprah! HA!  If you are going to dream, you might as well dream big!! Right?

I have to admit, she can be a little intimidating!  I mean she makes crepes from scratch! I have never even tried to make a crepe in my life!  Just the name itself has kept me from giving it a try!

I think about menus that are quick and easy, she spends as much time in the kitchen as I do on my computer!!  Yikes!!  That really is a lot of time, according to my girls!!

Sometimes I feel guilty and actually put a lot of effort into a meal, but basically we have a very rigid menu that we follow, and it is something easy like tacos or spaghetti!!  And I am not a rigid person!  During the Holidays, I do put forth the effort to be somewhat festive!  I got to have the opportunity to decorate a table at least!

So do you think she taught me how to cook?

Are you a Gourmet chef or a quick and easy short order cook like me?   Or something in between?

Look what I “RECREATED”

Look what I “RECREATED”

Not too long ago, my youngest daughter, Gabby, surprised the snot out of me when we were in Claire’s at the mall.  She was shopping with her gift cards that she had received.  She was looking around and all of a sudden she sees head bands, pretty head bands, head bands with big flowers on them!  I was stunned!  Probably even speechless!! (yes I have had a few speechless moments in my life!)  You see I was that mom who LOVED hair bows and, my girls wore them a lot when they were younger, but as they got older, I had to give up that control and allow them to wear their hair the way they wanted!  And what did they want to do with it? NOTHING!!!!  Just brush it (sometimes) and go!  My oldest will put her hair in a ponytail from time to time, or even wear hair bows!  (ATTENTION MOMS:  hold on to to those big hair bows, your daughter will come back to them in 6th grade!!!)   Gabby has beautiful, long, blonde hair and she likes for it to be down, no hair clip, no hair bow, nothing!  So you can imagine how stunned I was when she was excited to see the headbands and was actually picking out the ones that she wanted!  This mama was in HEAVEN!!   I am a girly mom, and my girls have become somewhat “less girly” than I anticipated!   We came home that night with about 5 head bands and I think Gabby has worn one in her hair every day since!!  WOO HOO!!!

I had come across this head band craft project a while ago, but just oohed over the thought of it, thinking how fun it would be to make and be able to use!  I came across it again a few days ago and knew we had to make it!  Gabby’s bedroom is somewhat a hawaiian/surfer style bedroom (we moved here from Hawaii) so I found this cute hawaiian fabric from Jo Anne’s that matches her room.  Hawaiian or surfer fabric is not easy to find here in FL!  I ran to Walmart and bought the large container of oatmeal, the Great Value brand worked for me!

I came home and within 15 minutes, I RECREATED  a project and made this!   How cute is that!!

Here is what you need

1/2 yard of fabric

Large oatmeal container

hot glue gun

mod podge/ glue

3/8 inch ribbon

scissors

artificial flowers

What I did:

Cut the fabric a little larger than the container   I then used LOCTITE spray adhesive and sprayed the container with the adhesive.  Mod Podge will work as well.

I then wrapped the fabric tightly around the container.  You could use gift wrapping paper as well.  Just make sure it is darker or thick enough or you will be able to see the print from the oatmeal container through the paper.   I trimmed the fabric to fit the container.  I added 3/8″ of ribbon to to the top and bottom of the fabric covered container to cover any frayed fabric.  I then hot glued artificial hibiscus flowers to the top of the plastic lid.  I used 4 flowers because they were large.

I then added head bands and TA DA!   15 minutes later, I have this!!

A cute head band holder!  PLUS storage (inside the container) for all the clips and bows that I bought that she may decide to wear, one day!   (fingers crossed) Now we get to see just how long Gabby will actually use this!

I found several different sites that have posted this project.  Check them out because they will show you different ideas!  Thanks Ladies!!

the real housewife is a good one to visit too.  She uses a roll of paper towels instead of the oatmeal container!

Do you plan to make one?  I want to know!!
