Remember when we were tweens and had a huge crush on Leif Garrett? I remember how I thought Leif Garrett was FINE, he was my teen idol!! I mean that long blonde hair and those eyes, he was always singing right to me!
Remember how we would decorate our bedrooms with all the pictures from Tigerbeat magazine? At that age, what tween really cares how her bedroom is decorated, right?
I walked into Hayley’s bedroom this morning to find that she has started redecorating her room with pictures of One Direction, the newest boy band that makes all the young girls scream!
Hayley’s response, “But mom, it is only in the corner!” I guess she is right, it could be worse, like crooked pictures taped up over her entire bedroom. At some point we as moms, have to just give up control over little things like beautifully, custom designed bedrooms and just let them enjoy decorating their own rooms, right. I mean, it is her room, she has the right to decorate it so it will look “cool” for her!
So I walked out of the room and shut the door. I decided that she can do whatever within reason to make her room a place she can hang out and relax in. But the one thing I do ask, please keep it clean! I am sure within a few more days, more pictures will be taped up on a different wall. I know it is a phase and in a few years, we will be redecorating her room to reflect a teenager! So in the meantime, I will let her enjoy gazing at the good looking guys and I will just keep the door closed! It is what it is and it is not a battle I choose to fight!
Does your tween daughter’s room look like Hayley’s? Did you finally give up and give in to taped up posters on her walls?
How long will this phase last? Did you allow your daughter to decorate her bedroom her way?
And I just got to know, who did you crush over when you were that age?
