How to decorate a tween girl bathroom

How to decorate a tween girl bathroom

Decorating a tween girl bathroom can be so much fun, especially when your tween is eager to participate in their bathroom design.   Hayley and Gabby have started giving me decorating ideas with this house and I love it. Up until now, they have not shown much interest in any type of home decor so I was excited when they told me they picked out a Roxy bath ensemble!  I was even more excited when they told me they wanted matching bright pink bathroom accessories!  Did they say PINK??  I remember jumping on the bright pink bandwagon and quickly buying up the bathroom decor before they could even change their mind!  I love pink and they had given up pink a few years ago!  No way was I gonna pass up this opportunity.  Bathroom design 101 time!

I bought the Roxy shower curtain, toothbrush holder, soap dispenser, and hand towels.  I used solid bright pink towels and bright pink bathroom rugs.  I just love this Roxy Go See Dots bathroom decor set.  I love the bright colors, the polka dots, and the striped hand towels!  This combination is very hip and chic, and a very popular choice with tween girls.

Hayley and Gabby made this artwork.  I like to personalize spaces in my home.  To me, personalized home decor makes our home feel more like we belong their.

DIY bathroom home improvement

I found this flip flop art at TJMAXX.  I thought it was fitting with the Roxy Decor.

We used brown floating shelves from Target to store the towels on. This is a great idea for additional storage if you have a small bathroom.  Not only are shelves great for storage, but they are a great way to add a modern decor look to any space.

When we first moved into this house, the girl’s bathroom was pretty much an outdated mess, lacking and bathroom designed look.   David tore out the old vanity and the large mirror, added a new, all wood,  36′  Birch Palencia Bath Vanity by Allen + Roth and matching mirror from Lowe’s.  We chose the espresso color vanity with a solid white marble counter top to give the bathroom a modern look.  We chose the Allen + Roth white cultured Marble vanity top with square sink.  We also added chrome cabinet hardware, a faucet, hand towel ring, and light fixture to complete the contemporary look we wanted.

So there you have it, my ideas for decorating a tween girl bathroom!  I think it looks very hip!  What do you think?

Bath renovations on the cheap

Bath renovations on the cheap

When we first bought this home, we knew that we had many renovations to do in order for this home to be updated to the 21st Century.  Added to the top of all renovations was this guest bathroom.
Guestbath renovations

Nothing spectacular at all.

Sorry I didn’t take many photos of the guest bathroom BEFORE the renovation.  This bathroom home DIY project was actually done BEFORE the blogging idea came along, but because I have been so preoccupied the last few weeks, I am just now getting to this bathroom makeover project that my husband and I did.

I KNOW this before picture is NOT a great example at all, but I just want you to look at the vanity and the counter top!  Ok I know it only shows the corner of the vanity and counter top,  (I know, I know, I MUST get better, remember I am still a newbie!)

You should be able to tell how cheap and OUTDATED it is.renovations

The counter top was laminate with a mauvy blueish finish, and the vanity was covered in laminate also.

In other words it was NOT even close to being in the 21st Century.

IT HAD TO GO, and it had to go FAST!

The only problem was this whole bathroom needed to be totally redone and I did not have the time and really did not want to put a lot of money in a guest bathroom that is hardly ever used.

Especially when I am planning renovations for the entire house.

WHAT was I to do?

So I thought about it a few days, figured why not just change the vanity out for now and wait until I can completely gut the bathroom and just do the whole thing over!

I already had this shower curtain.  I bought it at Tuesday Morning.  So I knew this shade of blue was what I was going with.

I went to Home Depot and found this bathroom (Glacier Bayvanity.
renovationsDid you see that price?

$88.00 for the bathroom vanity AND cultured marble counter top!!!

What a steal!

it’s solid wood ya’ll.

AND it has a 4 star review!

It is actually much better quality than what we had.   I bought that bad boy and home we went.

Because I wanted to dazzel this vanity and bathroom up, I chose to paint it. bath-renovations-2

Steps we took to paint this vanity

  1. First, we sanded the entire vanity with 120 grit sand paper
  2. we then primed it with primer, using a small roller and applied one coat.
  3.  After it had completely dried, I then I painted it, using a small roller and applied two coats of paint.

I used Sherwin Williams Moody Blue paint.

Oops!  Yes I see the doors are not even.

That’s ok, I never claimed to be a perfectionist, in fact I embrace little imperfections like that because they keep me grounded.  I’m sure my husband will fix it when he sees this though! :-)

Check out the white cultured marble countertop.  It is a solid white countertop and I love it!  It looks so current and in style.

We added a brushed nickel faucet, brushed nickel lighting, and an oval mirror, (all Glacier Bay brand) from Home Depot.   Because this bathroom partial renovation was inexpensive, I don’t have to feel guilty when I want to change it!

We painted the walls Ashwood by Benjamin Moore, but was color matched using Sherwin Williams HGTV paint.

Anyway David did all of the renovations himself.

He even replaced the toilet with a brand new Glacier Bay toilet from Home Depot.

 BONUS!!

I hope you are  inspired from this home DIY budget friendly bathroom renovation.

If you already have a contractor grade vanity in your bathroom, then try to dazzel it with your favorite color of paint!

What do you think?  Don’t you just love it!!

*update:  Months later as I was looking through pinterest, I found this bath renovation that looks a lot like mine!

I guess Bower Power and I have the same taste! bower power renovations

Of course her bath lighting is much better than mine, and her layout is better for taking pictures.

I will be the first to admit, lighting in this home is awful for pictures.

What renovations are you working on?
